Chimney is the main way to discharge coal-fired waste gas in thermal power and metallurgy industries. The thermal power industry, for example, in the past, dust-remove measures only be taken for coal-fired waste gases, which were released into the atmosphere through tall chimneys. Nowadays, due to the requirements of environmental protection, sulfur dioxide emissions shall be strictly controlled, the waste gas needs to be desulfurized.

At present, the thermal power industry mostly adopts wet desulfurization. Before the adoption of wet desulfurization process, although the flue gas contains a lot of sulfur dioxide, the temperature of flue gas entering the chimney is relatively high, up to 130~160℃, and only a small amount of flue gas condensation phenomenon is formed, so the corrosion prevention requirements for the chimney are not very strict.

However, after the wet desulfurization, the flue gas temperature drops to 50~80℃, and the moisture content of flue gas is relatively high, which leads to the increase of corrosion concentration on the inner wall of the chimney. Although the flue gas temperature after wet desulphurization drops to 50-80℃, flue gas temperature without wet desulphurization in emergency state (about 150℃) and temperature in accident state (nearly 200℃) shall be taken into account when designing, so wet desulphurization chimney has higher requirements on corrosion resistance and temperature resistance.

In order to solve the problem of serious corrosion on the inner wall of the chimney caused by the installation of wet desulphurization device, technicians at home and abroad have done a lot of research and engineering tests. At present, the commonly used anti-corrosion materials of chimney include acid-resistant brick - acid-resistant cement paste, steel-titanium composite structure, steel-stainless steel composite junction, steel-coating material and hard E-276 alloy lining.

The new type of fiberglass chimney has the advantages of corrosion resistance, low investment, short construction period, light weight and long service life.

Application of FRP Chimney

After reasonable design, manufacture and installation, FRP has been used in the structure and whole set of equipment of wet desulfurization system, which has obvious technical economic and social benefits, it has long service life and reliable operation. It has been widely used in foreign countries. Technical and economic analysis is feasible.

Replacing the traditional alloy steel, and carbon steel lined with rubber, carbon steel coating resin scale and other materials with FRP to fabricate fume gas desulfurizing device, which is with good corrosion resistance, long service life, high strength, energy saving etc.

Comparison between FRP chimney and chimney made with other material

1、FRP Chimney

Concrete lined FRP chimney

It is mainly used for the inner cylinder of the concrete chimney with the height of 100m-200m.In this structure, make full use of property of FRP, such as high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance characteristics, concrete chimney to provide the support. Some concrete chimney is fitted with 1 glass fiber reinforced plastic pipe liner, some have 2 or 3 glass fiber reinforced plastic pipe liner, which is according to the design and customer requirement.

In general, the structure form of segmental hanging wall will be adopted for the inner cylinder of concrete jacket. A steel structure embedded in the concrete chimney as a support system. Generally 30-50 meters is a section, each section is connected by an expansion joint, and a guide support is designed every 15 meters.

1st step: convey the 1st section of inner cylinder to the bottom end of chimney with flat car

2nd step: connect the 1st section of FRP cylinder with hoisting rope then lift the pipe section to the height of connection platform.

3rd step: convey the 2nd FRP cylinde
